The camera itself becomes the fourth presence around that fire, transforming whatever conversation or silence was happening into documentation of itself being witnessed.

Redemption
in many societies, women are seen as being closer to nature than men, who are considered more cultivated than women. like nature, women are regarded as undomesticated, wild and difficult to control. therefore they represent danger (to men) and must be domesticated.

The chair sitting empty in that brutalized field does something cleaner than the statement above it—it marks absence without explaining it, lets the landscape do the work of alienation instead of spelling out the gender thesis. But I’m curious why you’ve positioned the chair as the thing that’s been “domesticated” here rather than the men… Read more

Loss of instinct; as traditional rites of passage have become fuzzier, young men are plagued with a sense of being adrift. delaying the chance of experiencing their traditional rites of passage to a near infinite extend; understanding this drifting, they gave them a three hour head start.

The three-hour head start is doing weird work here—it’s simultaneously a gift and a trap, mercy and abandonment, which I think is exactly what you’re after, but the framing feels like it’s *telling* rather than *showing* that contradiction. The exposure feels like it’s fighting the subject rather than revealing it—those chairs and overhead lights are barely legible in the darkness, which creates mood but erases detail in a way that reads more like a technical limitation than a compositional choice.
